The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates, recently established the final version of the new standard TS 040 regarding enabling cell broadcast for national public warning system. This standard will allow the public warning system to use the mobile networks in the UAE to inform the citizens of emergency situations through cell broadcast technology. The specific technical requirements of the standard will be mandatory for all handsets in the UAE from January 1, 2016.
