BRAZIL: Public Consultation 45 – Requirements for USB-C in Mobile Phones

Anatel opened a proposal for a Public Consultation for the definition of mandatory technical requirements for assessing the compliance of the wired charging interface with the USB Type-C standard in mobile cell phones.

With the objective of contributing to the homogenization of the offer of products that use cable charging, which will allow greater convenience for consumers and possibly reduce electronic waste by reusing chargers when changing the cell phone, a draft of an act that establishes charging interface requirements for both cell phone devices and chargers intended for these devices, which includes the definition of the USB-C standard as a mandatory interface and the standardization of charging protocols for these devices.

The proposal consists of including in the requirements aimed at assessing the conformity of Cell Phones, annexed to act No. 3152/2020, and Charger Used in Cellular Mobile Phones, annexed to act No. 5159/2022, technical compliance assessment procedures in order to ensure the standardization of the required loading interface.
