UNITED STATES: FCC to Auction a Portion of Spectrum in the 600MHz Band

October 25, 2016: The Federal Communications Commission of the United States (FCC) published on its website a public notice informing all interested parties about an upcoming spectrum auction in the 600MHz band. The objective of the auction is to release 108 MHz of spectrum in the stage three of the “Broadcast Television Spectrum Incentive Auction.” The objective of the auction is to response to the increasing demand for wireless broadband spectrum used in the country, moving the current owners to another portion of the spectrum in a voluntarily way. The new owners will use the spectrum for wireless broadband services, including the development of 5G wireless services and applications. The process will start on November 1, 2016.
