Colombia: Opens Public Consultation to Enable the Use of the 6 GHz Band for Outdoor Applications

Back

On September 18, 2024, the National Spectrum Agency (ANE) of Colombia launched a public consultation aimed at enabling the unlicensed use of the 6 GHz frequency band for outdoor applications. This initiative builds on Resolution 737 of 2022, which allowed the indoor use of this band for low-power applications, and now seeks to regulate Very Low Power (VLP) and Standard Power (SP) applications for outdoor use.

VLP applications are designed for short-range communications and include devices such as smartwatches, glasses, bracelets, and gaming console controllers. On the other hand, SP applications focus on providing connectivity in rural areas through solutions like Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), point-to-point, and point-to-multipoint links, promoting the deployment of telecommunications infrastructure in remote regions of the country.

With this consultation, ANE aims to foster technological innovation and promote the use of new communication technologies, completing the global ecosystem of unlicensed applications in the 6 GHz band. Stakeholders in the ICT sector are invited to submit comments until October 9, 2024, via email to comentarios6ghz@ane.gov.co.
