NEW ZEALAND: MBIE Publishes Discussion Document for Preparation of 5G

During March 2018, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) of New Zealand published a discussion document for the preparation of 5G in the country with the following objective: “the objective of this discussion document is to canvas industry’s views on the key issues and actions by government required to support the roll out of 5G technology.” The discussion document highlights the regulatory considerations for 5G in New Zealand, possible frequency bands for 5G it plans to utilize, spectrum allocations as well as determining the optimal timing for the spectrum release for 5G service. Until Monday, April 30, 2018, MBIE will be accepting comments regarding the contents of this document.
